Capacity Building Program 2026: Advancing charity effectiveness
Project Change Foundation is proud to continue investing in the growth of Canadian charities through our 2026 capacity building program. Building on the success of last year’s HR‑focused training series, this year’s program is designed to strengthen four essential areas of charity effectiveness: governance, fundraising, impact measurement, and strategic communications. Together, these topics form the backbone of resilient organizations, shaping how charities make decisions, attract resources, demonstrate results, and communicate their mission with clarity and credibility.
Seven PCF grant recipients and four short‑listed charities are participating in this year’s program, which features one virtual session per quarter. The first session in April, led by governance expert and PCF board member Patricia Bood, gave participants practical tools to work with their boards more effectively. Executive directors and management teams explored how to distinguish between governance and day‑to‑day operations, when to involve the board in decisions, and how to improve reporting practices so directors feel informed without being overloaded. The session helped participants clarify expectations, reduce confusion, and strengthen collaboration with their boards.
The second session in June will focus on fundraising, led by digital strategist Alli Vail. Later in the year, charities will benefit from sessions on measuring and evaluating impact, facilitated by Wendy Keats, and on strategic communications, with details to be announced. Together, these workshops are designed to give Canadian charities practical skills and confidence to grow stronger and more sustainable. As Vancouver Food Runners’ executive director Michelle Reining explains, “Project Change Foundation’s training series has been invaluable, giving charities access to professional development that strengthens operations and supports sustainable growth.”
Following April’s governance workshop, our June session will turn to fundraising with Alli Vail. Read the full spotlight here.
