Help select our 2023 grant recipient

Once again this year, we’re enlisting our supporters, networks, and community (that’s you!) to help select Project Change Foundation’s next grant recipient.

Our team spent the last month reading about the invaluable work being done by dozens of Canadian charities committed to improving life for people or protecting the environment.

“It was challenging to get the short list down to six, because there are so many charities in Canada that deserve support, and that are doing vital and incredible work in their communities,” said Joe Kelly, Project Change Foundation board member. “Thank you to everyone who applied! We welcome you to apply again next year.”

After much deliberation, we’ve narrowed the list down to six potential recipient organizations working on community or environmental projects:

  • B.C. Marine Trails Network Association
  • Be the Change Earth Alliance Society
  • Captain Scott Legacy Society
  • Food Stash Foundation
  • Shift Happens Coaching
  • The Super Sophia Project

Read more about the short list below.

Here’s where you come in. Until September 30, people can vote for the organization they feel should receive support in 2023.

Voting has closed. Read about the winning organization here: https://projectchangefoundation.com/2022/11/17/announcing-2023-recipient/

You can only vote once so make it count! Consider sharing the voting link with your network to help us raise the profile of all these hard-working, committed charities.

Your vote will help one of these deserving organizations win a $2,000 grant and mentorship from Project Change Foundation’s board in 2023. This support makes a positive difference for the recipient organization.

“The financial support is always appreciated by small charities, but above and beyond this, the advisory support received from the board is what sets Project Change apart from other granting institutions” says Emily-anne King, Project Change Foundation board member and co-founder of Backpack Buddies, the 2017 grant recipient.

Meet the short list

Project Change Foundation provides financial and mentorship support to early-stage Canadian charities with significant potential for creating social or environmental change. Aside from a grant, our board provides free advisory support and mentorship based on the organization’s unique needs.

Our shortlist this year features six emerging charities with a clear vision for improving the communities they work in, or the environment.

B.C. Marine Trails Network Association

B.C. Marine Trails Network Association works with First Nations and stakeholders to build, protect, and promote a network of marine trails allowing recreational navigation of the BC coastline with minimal impact on the environment. If selected, Project Change Foundation’s grant will go toward launching a program to help educate small boaters on low-impact camping on the BC coast.

Be the Change Earth Alliance Society

Be the Change Earth Alliance delivers empowering, hope-inspiring education that enables BC youth to turn their climate anxiety and grief into meaningful action. If selected, Project Change Foundation’s grant will support Youth Climate Justice Collaborative, a new initiative to empower 200 youth to take climate action, while helping them to gain hope, agency and mental health resilience.

Captain Scott Legacy Society

Captain Scott Legacy Society inspires and empowers people of all ages to find meaningful purpose in their communities as volunteers. If selected, Project Change Foundation’s grant will go toward a youth leadership program in East Vancouver, called LEAD, that uses school and community-based volunteering activities to teach inner-city elementary school students valuable leadership skills.

Food Stash Foundation

Food Stash Foundation rescues good, surplus food from grocery stores and delivers it to those who need it most. Food Stash wants to ensure that food rescue is as beneficial to the planet as possible. If selected, Project Change Foundation’s grant will go toward creating an alliance of food-focused non-profits in Vancouver that receive training in greenhouse gas accounting to help them cut emissions.

Shift Happens Coaching

Shift Happens Coaching recognizes the value in every youth and empowers them to claim their voice, ignite their brilliance, and make a positive impact in their world. If selected, Project Change Foundation’s grant will go toward a coaching program in Greater Toronto Area, called Hero’s Journey, that will impact the lives of 12 high school students who will in turn inspire their friends and peers.

The Super Sophia Project

The Super Sophia Project inspires hope for children and their families who are battling cancer and other childhood illnesses. Love Boxes ™ are filled by community members with toys, crafts, clothes, gift cards, etc. and gifted to children in hospitals across Ontario. If selected, Project Change Foundation’s grant will go toward delivering another 10,000 Love Boxes ™ to children across the province.
