Vancouver Food Runners strengthens its foundation

Vancouver Food Runners is a Metro Vancouver charity that rescues surplus food and delivers it to nonprofits serving people in need.

With Project Change Foundation’s backing, Vancouver Food Runners enhanced its programming through a grant, mentorship with board member Patricia Bood, and HR training. Together, these resources helped the charity grow stronger both operationally and in community impact.

The grant kept its volunteer‑driven food recovery system running smoothly, enabling thousands of rescues and millions of pounds of surplus food delivered to nonprofit partners across Metro Vancouver, while reducing environmental impact.

Mentorship provided invaluable governance and strategic guidance, giving Executive Director Michelle Reining clarity and confidence in decision‑making. Separate HR training sessions equipped the leadership team with practical tools to strengthen personnel policies and internal communication. These improvements translated into more reliable service for the 145 nonprofit partners who depend on Vancouver Food Runners.

“We are extremely grateful for the support provided by Project Change Foundation,” says Michelle Reining, Executive Director. “As a small organization, gaining access to high-level HR workshops and governance expertise—especially through one-on-one mentorship—has significantly strengthened our HR capacity, leadership confidence, and overall organizational maturity. This support reinforced our internal foundation and directly enhanced our ability to serve our community. Project Change Foundation has played an important role in helping us grow as a leading food recovery organization in Metro Vancouver.”
